We would like to invite you to the opening of PUSH Tunisia on August 24th at PUSH skate shop and gallery on 25 Patton avenue in downtown Asheville. The event is free and begins at 6pm. PUSH Tunisia is a skateboard 'artivism' film and art mashup featuring a group of skateboarders and street artists in Tunisia eleven months after the revolution. This eclectic crew - known collectively as theBedouins and hailing from Tunisia, the U.S.A. and the Middle East – took respite from the chaos in the streets to turn the looted house of the incarcerated politician Imed Trabelsi, nephew of former first lady Leila Ben Ali, into a makeshift skate park and street art exhibition. PUSH Tunisia shows how it is possible to inspire a change in human perspective away from destruction and complacency towards proactive peace through creative oppositions and celebrations of the positive in our world.
A number of those involved in the project will be at the opening and the show will be up through the month of September
Decks by new Asheville company Prohibited Skateboards now available at PUSH. What an appropriate name given the recent decision by city council to uphold the ban on skateboarding here.
