PUSH Skate Camp 2014! New Dates Added.
Written by Push Toy Project
Tuesday, 20 May 2014 16:23

We have updated the dates for PUSH Skate Camp due to many of the schools in our area not getting out for summer until June 12th. So we have removed the first week of camp (June 9-13) and added a week on to the end (July 28-Aug 1). Also, due to popular demand we have reinstated our pay on the first day of camp policy.  A big thank you to everyone who has already signed up and came by the shop to pay. We realized that it ultimately just makes it easier for everyone to be able to sign up through email or by phone so give us a call at 828-225-5509 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Nathanael Roney show at PUSH Gallery
Written by Push Toy Project
Thursday, 17 April 2014 20:03

Age Cowboy presents Slown Down Pictures, a new collection of artworks by Nathanael Roney and an original soundtrack by J Seger, to open at PUSH Gallery (25 Patton Avenue) on Friday, April 18th from 7-10pm.

Followed by A Newspaper (2012) and The Deepening Blues (2013), Slown Down Pictures marks the third trial of "art show with soundtrack" the two have produced. And for the first time in the series, the individual works themselves have been titled, if not mostly for the sake of mentioning them here — BURDEN, COMPOSURE, SHIT CARS — titles meant to fulfill those traditional purposes of explanation.

Roney's work has been referred to as both "refreshing" and "masturbatory." Some people even hang it in their homes. He hates Rs and Ks and especially Bs, because he has a harder time drawing them than say Cs, Ts or lower case Es. This is not to say he uses the words he writes based on the preference he has in drawing them, but sometimes words and their characters are visually incorrect, making them useless in many cases. He considers the desire to articulate, even the instinct, to be the skin of great weakness. When used poorly, language assumes its power to conclude what it can only hypothesize. He often finds himself in defense from its influence, and at times, frustrated because of it.

Seger on the other hand, just don't give a fuck

PUSH Gallery is proud to present Just Looking-new portrait/street photography by Anthony Bellemare. The opening reception is Friday, March 7 from 7-10pm. Just Looking will be on display from March 7 until April 14. Come one and all. Refreshments graciously provided by Asheville Pizza and Brewing.

Anthony Bellemare, who makes his home in Asheville, NC, uses the camera as a means of capturing, creating and relaying moments — of place and person, and always in time. His photographs take note of brief sidewalk encounters and small-town city life, all in-passing. “I strive to make images that are anchored in a moment,” says Bellemare. “I enjoy wandering with intention, noticing a coincidence and following a hunch, and never wasting an opportunity.”

During the last 5 years Bellemare has contributed photographs for Verve, Bold Life and the Mountain Xpress and will be featuring portraits in the Asheville Citizen Times during an upcoming, month-long photography column entitled “Living Portraits” Just Looking is Bellemare’s second solo exhibition. PUSH Skateshop & Gallery is proud to present the art of recent Asheville transplant, Adam Void.  The Crossroads will feature work responding to extensive travel, spiritual quandaries, and political endtimes.  Preferring to create an immersive environment, The Crossroads spans the mediums of sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, and collage.  The work on display includes a life-sized found object assemblage of a horse-drawn pioneer/gypsy wagon, a site-specific indoor mural, poetically combined cardboard signs, and a curated "show within a show" of works by local and national underground artists. The opening reception will be Friday, December 6 from 7-10pm. Refreshments graciously provided by Asheville Pizza and Brewing. Music by DJ Hillbilly Ocean.
