There are No Potatoes in the Porn Salad Paintings by Anna Jensen

“Painter Anna Jensen comes to Asheville from recent residences in Brooklyn, NC and Athens, GA. Her work is reminiscent of Picasso and Matisse in its disregard for traditional coloring and constraints. A layering of pattern and décor bring s sense of charm and nostalgia. The modern female subjects are disarming and captivating. They seem to be hot messes laughing in the face of oppression. While slightly disoriented they are forces to be reckoned with…divas better left alone. Jensen’s work is infused with soul searching, world wonder and fearless abandon. This is edgy, new contemporary art at its best and an Asheville debut not to be missed.”

“Kevin Kinney was the lead signer of the Atlanta rock band Drivin’n’Cryin, but since the band’s 1986 inception he’s released records of his own, often collaborating with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck. Though often cited as a working-class lyricist, his is a unique spin on class, no urban yet not completely rural—he’s lived and worked in the urban center, Atlanta. Yet there is a gentleness and deeply humanistic thread to his work. Continuing to record with Drivin’n’Cryin, Kinney also tours as a solo act.”
